World Cup

Every 4 years, I hear the same story.....

It is like 2002 and 2006 all over again....

same coach and same strategy as in 2002 and same team as in 2006.....

I should get used to it but I refuse to believe that we are always going to be a mediocre team!

About me

Sometimes I think I am too European... Well, could that be because the last 2 years I lived in Sweden and they really influenced in the type of person I am now?

the escense of football

I was watching the US game downtown Mexico and I was so annoyed. Really!! People were cheering for Ghana and booing the US.... Come on!! I am quite sure that those people don't even know where Ghana is!!!

That actually made me really sad. I was not cheering for the US but I was not cheering for Ghana just for the US to loose.... It was hard to be surrounded by all this anti-American feelings. And I am pretty sure that people wanted the US to loose just because of the issue with Arizona.. PLEASE!!! That is soo silly!! True, I don't like Donovan either, but I am not going to turn my back on the whole US team just because of a immigration law (which I totally agree with)!!! Pfff......That happens when ythe mayority of our population are uneducated and ignorant!!

And it is football..... And the Word Cup!l!!! People should enjoy the game, regardless of who is playing, except in cases where there is a connection. Like I support the Mexican team, right??

Do the Mexicans don't remember when they hosted the world cup back in 86?? Remember what the song said?? We should be friends in the game!!! The world is brought together by a soccer ball!!! We are in happy times that we only get to live every four years. Enjoy the matches and leave the hate behind!!!

Just to refresh your memory....

Pachuca in the world cup

USA-Ghana.

I was cheering for Ghana because I have very good Ghanian friends ... But I didn't want the US to loose either ... Come on, they have two players of my home team (Pachuca)!!! We also have one in the Paraguay national tiem and another one in the Mexican team! Good one boys!

Football fever

One of the things going on in this world cup is the FIFA fan fest in downtown Mexico City. I have been there twice and it's kind of fun. Downside, no shade... so I always feel horrible and tired after being too much time under the sun. This time I watched the USA - Ghana game. I guess CONCACAF lost one of their hopes..... Now well see tomorrow what happen with us =(

metro

Well, I took the metro in Mexico City. Not that it is that bad but I had always been scared of taking it. But out of need I had to. I need to save money and taking the metro helped me to save good money in parking and gas. It is still scary, I am not going to lie. Everyone would say I am overreacting but I didn't grow up learning that the metro was a good place to be... I don't bring any valuables and hug my bag as if someone was coming after it. It is crowded and the people is... mmmm... well.... let's say that it is not the kind of people I am used to hang out with. But hey, I am saving money, right? That should be the most important factor right?

Sorry I couldn't take a picture but I was not brave enought to take my camera out =S

What a week!

I was eexhausted!
I had so many changes in my routine this week and they were not good to me...
First of all I woke up at 5 to talk to my friends in Europe, or 5:30 to be at the gym at 6am so I can have some social life after work.
And then, I had so many things to do at work that I was stressed out and always busy. Seems that I am finally working and the trainig period is over.. Finally!! And I am excited about that.... But this is killing me... well, at least I have the weekend to rest and lay down in the couch and watch movies =)

to my friend Ricardo

Ok, I am at work but I am super exhausted and my cases are not getting any solution soon. So instead of falling asleep I am procrastinating... =S

I decided to dedicate this video to my friend Ricardo who has found a job here in Mexico City and he'll move to the big city.... But the fun part is that he has lived in the North of the country for a long time so he'll have to pack all his stuff in his car and move here. Just like in the video hahaha.

how mexico is celebrating the victory against france

mexico is good at soccer... and sandwiches!

I'm too tired  to put something up this weekend.... And since it's the world cup, well... I'll leave you with this avertisement prepared by the Mexican team... hope they do much better than in the ad!

lunch for the week

I am probably the only person my age in the whole world that does this in order to feed himself during the week: Ricotta, grana and spinnaci cannelloni. Don't  they look good? I made 2 sets with 2 different sauces and I discovered that I prepare the best béchamel sauce ever!!

National anthem

I am getting very nationalistic hehe

Probably all this bicentennial brainwash that we are having... or maybe because of the world cup

Anyway, I am posting the Complete National Anthem. I just love it!!! Just listen to the lyrics.. best thing ever!!

Lyrics at: http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Himno_Nacional_Mexicano, and translation in the English site ;)

Bicentennial??

I am so confused!!

Why are we celebrating September 15, 1810??

We celebrate that day because Porfirio Díaz wanted to celebrate his 80th birthday on that day in 1910... In any case, we should be celebrating the 16th because that's when it all started....

Anyway, I have a list of dates that are more relevant than the one we celebrate.

- August 25, 1821: Juan O'Donoju (the last viceroy) acknowledges the Mexican Independence from Spain.

- September 27, 1821: Victorious entrance of the army in the country's capital

- September 28, 1821: Signing of the declaration of Independence

In any case.... there is no bicentennial... We haven't been independent for 200 years!!! That is such a lie!!

And these series of celebrations do nothing but upset me because the media and the government don't tell the truth: that we are celebrating the bicentennial and the centennial of the start of the two most important revolutionary movements in Mexico.

Anyway... let's all get together and join the celebrations!! Even though I doubt they'll be better than the ones a 100 years ago....

First flag with the 3 colors and the Declaration of Independence

Back to Chapultepec

Ok, I couldn't resist... I just love this place

I am in love with the murals od Siqueiros and Juan O'Gorman that tell the history of my country. And this place is so rich with history and culture.... Not that I am racist but it feels like Europe!!

Mural de Siqueiros sobre la Revolución

Alicia Rivas Mercado

This one is for my mom,

If you're interested is the door to the inside of the monument to the Independence of Mexico and the portrait is from Alicia, the architect's daughter

celebrating

As a tradition (one that I don't encourage), whenever Mexico wins a soccer match people go and celebrate it at the monument for the Mexican Independence... Come on people... get a life!!

1. Sooo many people celebrating...

2. Intervention from the police...

there are only few cars in town

One of the disadvantages of having a window looking over Reforma is that you get to see the traffic. Very very interesting.... Anyone wants to guess how this roundabout works?

radio

Finally I found a good radio station. I had my brother's CD's in my car but I got tired of his music. So I switched to radio.... After finding "news", romantic music and other tacky prgrams, I finally found music from the 80's... And I love it!!

outfit

Sometimes I think I am too European... probably I'm the only one wearing these to work =)
